*PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ENTIRELY. THE SCRIPT IS ATTACHED AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS INSTRUCTION SHEET* I shall assume that you finished the OS/2 installation and have installed the Internet Access Kit (IAK) from the bonus pack. The attached script, SMARTNET.CMD, was originally called cctdial.cmd and was written by CCT Inc, modified by Pat Martini, and fixed by me to work on SmartNet. It will allow PPP connection into SmartNet. Installation Instructions: 1. Copy the smartnet.cmd into your X:\tcpip\bin directory. If you have not yet done so, invoke the Dial Other Provider program from the internet utilities folder in the Internet Connection for OS/2 folder. In the DialUp other services, add a new page. 2. On page 1, Login Info, fill in the first field "*Name:" with something like "SmartNet" (without quotes), or something else to help you identify this one login sequence. Remember if it has an asterisk near it, the field is mandatory. If there is anything in the Login Sequence field, erase it. Put "smartnet.cmd" (without the quotes) in the field Login Sequence. Take the checkmark off the Password Required checkbox. Make sure the Connection Type of PPP is selected. Nothing else is required on this page. 3. On page 2, Login Information, your MRU size is 1500. VJ Compression should be checked. The *Domain Nameserver is 207.176.80.80, and *Your Domain Name is "smart.net" (without the quotes). Nothing else is required on this page. 3. On page 3, Server Info, your News Server is "news.smart.net" (without the quotes). Depending on which mailer you are using you might have to fill in the mail portion. If so, your POP MailServer is "pop3.smart.net" and your MailGateway is "smtp.smart.net" (without the quotes). Your Reply Domain is "smart.net" (without the quotes). Your Reply ID and POP Login ID is your username. In the Password field, type in your login password. Nothing else is needed on this page. 4. On page 4, Modem Info, fill in as required: Com Port is probably 1 or 2 (most likely 2 if you have a mouse); Speed is probably 19200 or 57600 for a 9.6 or 14.4 modem (faster if you don't have errors), and 115200 for a 28.8 modem. Data Bits is 8 and Parity is None. Nothing else is required on this page. OK, now the configuration is set for TCP/IP. Now you have a few options. You can either modify the smartnet.cmd file to add your access telephone number, userID and password, or you can put it in the Login Sequence field of page 1. To add to the smartnet.cmd script file (slightly more privacy): Using your system editor, open the file smartnet.cmd. Page down until you see: K1 = 'ATDT' K2 = 'MyUserID' K3 = 'MyPW' Add your access telephone number after the ATDT but BEFORE the single quote. So the number should look like this: K1 = 'ATDT7927997'. Replace MyUserID with your login in ID for SmartNet. Remember to keep it in between the single quotes. Replace MyPW with your password for SmartNet. Once again remember to keep it in between the single quotes. Lastly, scroll down a few lines until you see Change Modem Specific Codes Only if Necessary. Under that you will see two lines for the same function, one of which is remarked out with the forward slash followed by an asterisk (/*), and the remark ends with an asterisk followed by a forward slash (*/). It is defaulted for one type modem. If you dial and run into a continuous problem where the modem will not reset (the script will tell you in the status window), remark out the one active line and remove the remarks from the other one. This will (hopefully) fix your problems. Whew!! Now the easy way (always saved for last (SBG)) To add to the Login Sequence field on page 1: On page 1, Login Info, in the Login Sequence field, after smartnet.cmd, press the space bar and put "ATDT" (without the quotes), then your SmartNet access phone number, press the space bar and put your login ID, press the space bar and put your password then PRESS THE SPACE BAR ONE MORE TIME (at the end of your password)!!! So the field should look like this: smartnet.cmd ATDT1234567 userID password Notice there are no single quotes and make sure you have a space between everything. The text will wrap in the window as necessary. Easier --- NO? But the otherway gives you more privacy. Your choice, they both work. Only one thing here. If you run into a problem where the modem will not reset properly, then you have to edit the smartnet.cmd as explained above. 5. Double click on the top left system menu to close the setup notebook, answer Yes to save the data. Then Click on the telephone. The script will take over and dial for you, and automatically log you in. Once you run the script the text will scroll thru the window and you will see, eventually: "[PPP] Enter Ctrl-C or Ctrl-Break to end session". This tells you the connection was totally successful. If you DO NOT SEE THIS, then hang up by clicking on the phone icon and try again. There you have it. If you got problems please try to resolve them with SmartNet *FIRST*. If you can't get help then contact me (danphi@smart.net). Happy surfing fellow OS/2 people! Dan Phillippy END INSTRUCTIONS.
