How To Set Up The SmartCounter

It seems that everybody these days is keeping track of visitors to their webpages using graphical counters. SmartNet also has a public counter available in addition to our public guestbook, freeing you from the hassles involved in creating numerous CGI scripts or C code.

Here is an example of our SmartCounter program:

This page has had hits since May 20th, 1996.

And here is the HTML code for the above example:

<IMG SRC="/cgi-bin/SmartCounter?ft=0&df=smart1.data&pad=n&comma=Y" BORDER=0>

** IMPORTANT NOTE**
To get YOUR OWN DATA FILE, please run the counter program from the Unix prompt and follow the directions it tells you to.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE THE DATAFILE "smart1.data" -- IT DOES NOT EXIST

SmartCounter also has a built-in clock, , and a built-in date .

A complete listing of all the different arguments you can send to the SmartCounter is available both on this web site and through the online menus on Navigator and Smarty by typing "counter" at any Unix prompt.
