WINDOWS 95/98/ME DIALUP CONNECTION INSTRUCTIONS

 

Step 1 - Creating the Smartnet Dialup Connection

1. Create a Smartnet Dialup Connection by using the Make New Connection Wizard.

2. To open the Connection Wizard, double-click on MY COMPUTER, and open the Dialup Networking Folder. For Windows ME, click START -> SETTINGS and select Dialup Networking

3. Double-click on "Make New Connection".

4. Type in Smartnet for the name of the computer you are dialing.

5. Under "Select a device" make sure that your modem is specified.

6. Click NEXT

7. Type in a local access number. (specify the full 10 digit number the the telephone number field)

8. Click NEXT

9. After successfully creating the connection, click FINISH.
10. RIGHT-click on your newly created Smartnet connection icon, then choose PROPERTIES.

11. Under the GENERAL TAB, UN-check the box for "Use area code and dialing properties". Verify that the full 10-digit number specified in the Telephone Number field.

12. Click on the SERVER TYPES TAB.

13. UN-check all boxes except for "Enable software compression" and "TCP/IP"

14. Click OK.

15. Right-click on the Smartnet Icon and choose "Create Shortcut". When prompted, allow Windows to place the shortcut on your desktop.
16. To connect to Smartnet, double-click on the Smartnet icon in the Dialup Networking folder or from the Smartnet shortcut on your desktop. Type in your username and password, the click 'connect'. Once connected, simply open your web browser to access the Internet.
