WINDOWS XP DIALUP CONNECTION INSTRUCTIONS

 

Step 1 - Creating the Smartnet Dialup Connection

1. Create a Smartnet Dialup Connection by using the Windows XP Connection Wizard.

2. To open the Connection Wizard, click on START, ALL PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, COMMUNICATIONS, and choose “NEW CONNECTION WIZARD”

3. At the Welcome screen, click on NEXT.

 

4. For the Network Connection Type, choose “Connect to the Internet”, then click on NEXT.
5. On the Getting Ready screen, choose “Set up my connection manually” then click on NEXT.
6. For the Internet Connection, choose “Connect using a dial-up modem” then click NEXT.
7. Under Connection Name, type in the ISP Name as “Smartnet”, then click NEXT.
8. Under the Phone Number to Dial, type in an access number that is local to you. For a complete list of access numbers, please go to http://www.smart.net/contact/accessnums.html

  DO NOT type in a “1” before the number.

9. Under Internet Account Information, type in your username and password.

10. Using the Internet Connection Firewall is optional and is up to the end-user to configure.

11. Click NEXT.

12. Under Completing the New Connection Wizard, check the box for “Add a Shortcut to this connection to my desktop”, then click FINISH.
13. To connect to Smartnet, simply double-click on the Smartnet Dialup Connection Icon and choose DIAL. Once connected, you may open up your web browser or other Internet Applications.
