The College Park Woods Swim Club is a tax-exempt non-profit "501C3" corporation which operates a private swimming pool from Memorial Day through Labor Day, in the College Park Woods neighborhood of College Park, Maryland. We strive to provide a safe, relaxing, family-oriented service to the entire community (not just the College Park Woods development).
Volunteer labor is essential to maintain the facilities and operate fund-raising activities, and suggestions for improvement are always welcome... though you may be the one to implement your suggestion!

The facilities include:

  • the main pool, with six 25-meter lap lanes and two low diving boards over a well 12' deep
  • the children's pool, from 12" to 18" deep, about 20' in diameter
  • barbecue grills, picnic tables, basketball court, grass, and canopies
  • a snack bar (stocked with various packaged snack foods)
  • a two-story clubhouse with showers and restrooms by the pool, and a meeting room above
  • a paved parking lot
  • frequent Sunday night barbecues as "The Cafe in the Woods"

  • Directions:
From US-1 (also known as Baltimore Blvd),
  • go west on University Blvd (MD-193).
  • Turn right onto Metzerott Rd at the first traffic light.
  • Turn right onto St. Andrews Place at the first traffic light.
  • Turn right onto Marlborough Way (the fourth right).
  • At the top of the hill, turn right at the sign into the club driveway.
  • From the parking lot, go to the gate in the fence (not the clubhouse door) to check in for swimming.

From southbound New Hampshire Ave, turn left onto Adelphi Rd, left onto Metzerott, and left onto St. Andrews (then see above).

The pool is guarded by certified lifeguards, and regularly inspected for safety by Prince George's County.

The clubhouse is available year-round for special events (birthday parties, meetings, etc.). As of 2007, the clubhouse has central air conditioning and heat, recessed lighting, folding tables, and both folding steel chairs and stackable padded wooden chairs. The small kitchen features a microwave oven, gas range, and two refrigerators. Rental rates for the clubhouse and/or pool are contained in Membership and Rental Policies, 2008

In accordance with regulations, no swimming is allowed within 30 minutes of audible thunder. If rain or thunder are present near the end of the day, the pool may dismiss the staff and close early.

The pool is available for day-camp programs in the mornings for a reasonable fee.

Water-aerobic exercise programs are also held on some mornings.

Pool members between 5 and 18 years old may join the College Park Woods Swim Team, as long as they can swim the full length of the pool. Competitions are held with other swim teams in the Prince-Mont Swim League on Saturday mornings in June and July.

Membership dues: For 2008, the board of directors has adopted a membership rate schedule which, though more complex than in past years, attempts to increase overall membership by lowering the cost of many membership option:.
  • A "water aerobics associate membership" is just $20 (not including fees for water aerobics instruction).
  • A swim-team associate membership, for the family in which only one swim team member will need access, is just $50 (not including swim team fees).
  • Instead of a single Family Membership rate, as in past years, Family plans now vary from $280 to $460, depending on the size of the family.

  • Full details are in Membership and Rental Policies, 2008 and on the Membership Application for 2008.

Operation of the club is also supported by various fund-raising activities, including the annual April mulch sale. Avoid traffic by picking up mulch at the clubhouse, or keep your car clean by having it delivered to your driveway! Mulch will be delivered to the pool on Saturday, April 5, 2008. Be sure to place your order in advance to guarantee adequate supply. We only order enough extra to cover those few bags which may be damaged in shipment or delivery.
Members: additional fund-raising ideas are welcome!
