The #2 seed Baltimore Orioles played the #4 seed Philadelphia Phillies in
best-of-7 World Series. This is Baltimore's 5th World Series appearance (the
Orioles won 3 of the previous 4 appearances), and Philadelphia's first
appearance. Despite Baltimore being the higher seed, Philadelphia had home
field advantage due to the fact that the two teams had identical records
during the regular season, and the Phillies went 4-2 against the Orioles
during the season. So, the first two games were to be
played in Philadelphia, games 3-5 in Baltimore, and games 6 and 7 in
Philadelphia, if necessary. The winner would be 1998 CBML World Series
Champions.
