Baltimore/Colorado Playoff Series



The #2 seed Colorado Rockies played the #3 seed Baltimore Orioles in a semi-final round best of 7 playoff series. The first two games were to be played in Colorado, games 3-5 in Baltimore, and games 6 and 7 in Colorado, if necessary. The winner would be playing in the 2000 CBML World Series.

Highlights:  A Tony Gwynn 3 run HR staked Baltimore to a 5-2 lead.  Harold
             Baines hit a grand slam off Mike Mussina in the 6th to give
             the Rockies a 10-7 lead. Urbina and Garces recorded the final
             6 outs allowing only a Hamilton sacrifice fly in the 11-8 win.

However, only 3 of these 15 runners scored. Trailing 3-1 in the 8th, Colorado got 2 runners on off Jeff Zimmerman with 2 outs when Ken Griffey hit a 3 run HR for a 4-3 Colorado lead. Doug Brocail could not protect this lead and gave up back to back doubles in the 8th to tie the score at 4. Baltimore had a great chance to win it in the 9th with runners on 2nd and 3rd and 1 out but Bruce Aven and Derek Jeter could not deliver. In the 12th, Craig Paquette homered off Benitez and Jeff Cirillo and Ken Griffey delivered RBI singles.
