Montreal/Colorado Playoff Series



The Colorado Rockies played the Montreal Expos in the 2000 CBML World Series. Games 1, 2, 6,and 7 were scheduled in Colorado and games 3, 4, and 5 were scheduled for Montreal.

Highlights:  Montreal Expos get 4 in the 1st on a Guerrero RBI single,
             Lankford 2 run double and a ground out. Staked to a 5-0 lead,
             Kevin Brown gave up 4 solo HRs including back to back to back
             ballpark HRs to Griffey, Bagwell, and Rodriguez in the 5th.
             Brown survived 8 innings and Hoffman got the save in the 9th
             despite allowing 2 hits.

Colorado explodes for 5 runs in the 3rd on a Walker double, Bagwell 2 run homerun, Baines double, Caminiti single, Griffey reaching on a 2 base error and run scoring groundouts by Rodriguez and Bonds. Trailing 9-5 in the 5th, McGwire misses a ballpark HR to 19. The sacrifice fly makes it 9-6 and ends the scoring. The Colorado bullpen pitches 5 scoreless innings in the game.

This time it is 3-0 after 3 on a Alfonzo groundout and a Giambi 2 run ballpark HR (1-2) Colorado explodes for 6 runs in the 5th on a Griffey double, Bonds RBI single past the 1st baseman who was in, Vizquel single, and with 2 outs, Walker single, Bagwell single (1-7), and Baines 3 run HR. Saberhagen goes 5 2/3 innings and Brocail and Urbina finish up allowing only a McGwire HR.

Griffey ties the score in the 3rd with a solo HR. In the 5th, a Caminiti walk was followed by a 2 run Griffey HR. Montreal rallied in the 5th when Lieberthal and Sanchez singled to chase Schmidt. Cormier came on and Lofton sacrificed. After Cormier strikes out Tatis, Giambi walked. With the bases loaded and 2 outs, Bob Wells came in and a 2-4 was rolled which was an HR (grand slam) on the displayed card. But, that card was inadvertantly still Giambi. The roll resulted in an RBI walk to McGwire but further trouble was averted when Wells got Guerrero to ground out. From there, the Colorado pen shut Montreal out the rest of the way and got homeruns from Baines and Griffey (his 3rd of the game) in the 9th. Brown gave up 8 HRs in 16 innings during the series.
