The Cleveland Quirks swept the Pittsburgh Pirates four straight games to win the first JHML World Series Championship. More details to follow.
The Pirates were taken to the limit, and had to win the final two games of the series to move on to the JHML World Series (I'll add more here when I'm more awake).
The Seattle Slews and Cleveland Quirks played in the TGML Division Championship series to determine which team would play in the inaugural JHML World Series. Game 1 was scoreless into the bottom of the 7th when the Slews rallied for 5 runs. But the Quirks scored 6 times in the top of the 8th to take the lead. That was all of the scoring as Keith Foulke gained the save. Game 2 was a pitcher's duel as Vicente Padilla took on Wade Miller. An RBI double in the 1st gave the Quirks the lead. It stayed that way until the 7th when the Quirks added another run on a Vidro single. That was all of the scoring as Foulke entered the game in the 9th to gain his 2nd save of the series. Game 4 was also close as the teams were tied at 4 after 9 innings. In the top of the 10th, Seattle scored on a solo HR by Lance Berkman to take the lead. In the bottom of the 10th, Ty Wigginton and Mike Cameron homered to give the Quirks a 5-4 win. In game 4, Seattle took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the 7th when the Cleveland offense woke up and put a 4-spot on the s scoreboard. The Quirks scored two more times in the 8th, and Foulke gained his 3rd save of the series by getting the last outs in the 9th. The Quirks won the series in four straight games, and will represent the TGML division in the 1st JHML World Series.
The San Diego Zoo and New York Yankees played their first round series. In game 1, Fred McGriff hit a 2-out, 3-run HR in the 1st to give the Yankees the lead. Oswalt was strong as he pitched a complete game 6-hitter in the 7-1 victory. In game 2, the Yankees scored first again in the 1st with the help of a Mike Mussina 2-base error for a 2-0 lead. It was a pitcher's duel after that until a Guzman 2-run HR in the bottom of the 8th tied the game at 3. With 2 on and 2 out in the top of the 9th, ARod hit a 3-run shot to give the Yankees the 6-3 win. In game 3, the Zoo scored first in the 1st to take a 1-0 lead. New York tied it in the 3rd on a run-scoring groundout. In the bottom of the 5th, number 9 hitter Posada hit a 3-run HR to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead. That was all of the scoring in the game as the Zoo managed just 4 hits and the Yankees only got 3 hits, but the 3-run HR gave the Yankees the game and the series win.
The Oakland A-Sox and Cleveland Quirks played their first round series. In game 1, it was all Cleveland as they scored and pitched to a 12-0 win. Tom Lampkin hit a pinch hit grand slam HR and Roy Halladay was strong in the victory. In game 2, back-to-back-to-back doubles by Oakland hitters gave the A-Sox a 4-0 lead after 4 innings, and Greg Maddux and the A-Sox bullpen made it stand (6-2) to even the series at 1. In game 3, the score was tied at 3 into the 7th when Tom Lampkin homered and Mike Cameron tripled to give the Quirks a 6-3 win. Game 4 turned out to be the series clincher. The Quirks scored 6 times in the 1st and 4 more times in the 2nd, and coasted to an 11-2 victory.
