Houston Wins World Series Over San Diego

The 2007 World Series pitted Houston's pitching staff of Johan Santana, Roy Halladay and Chris Young against San Diego's staff of Mike Mussina, CC Sabathia and Jake Peavy. So, you would expect a pitcher's dual, right? Not this year. Both teams pounded the pitching staffs of their opponents in the series, but it was Houston that came through to win the Series. Highlights of the series will be posted soon, but the Houston Quirks defended their 2006 championship with a four games to one victory over the San Diego Zoo.

San Diego Wins in 5 over Pittsburgh

The San Diego Zoo and Pittsburgh Pirates played for the CBML Division Championship. The Zoo took game 1, 8-5, by scoring four times in the bottom of the 8th inning highlighted by a 3-run shot by Ivan Rodriguez. In game 2, Pittsburgh scored 5 runs early, and Zach Duke and 5 relievers held down the Zoo offense for a 5-2 win. Game 3 was all San Diego as they took a 7-1 lead after 4 innings. The bullpens were strong to end the game as no more runs were scored. Game 4 was similar as the Zoo led 5-0 after 3 innings. Mike Mussina was strong, and the bullpen held on in the 8-3 Zoo win. Again in game 5, the Zoo took a 4-0 lead after 5 innings. Peavy pitched 7 strong innings of 2-hit ball before handing the ball off to the bullpen. The Pirates rallied for two in the 8th and one in the 9th before Mariano Rivera got the final out to gain the save, and clinch the series for San Diego. The Zoo will face the Houston Quirks in the 2007 JHML World Series.

Houston Wins in 7 Over New York(NL)

The Houston Quirks and New York Monkies played for the TGML Division Championship. The Monkies won game 1 in 13 innings, 6-3 on three singles (and two intentional walks) in the 13th. The Quirks won game 2, 8-5. 3-run HRs by Gabe Gross and Frank Thomas highlighted the victory. Game 3 was a pitcher's dual as the game went into the 14th inning tied at 2-2. Holliday hit a run-scoring double in the bottom of the 14th to give the Monkies the victory. Quirks' pitching was strong in the next two games as they won 6-2 and 4-2. Roy Halladay and Chris Young got the wins. Game 6 was an easy 7-1 win for the Monkies as they had 22 baserunners against Roger Clemens and the Quirks' bullpen. Game 7 had Brandon Webb facing Roy Halladay. The Quirks scored early as they led 5-0 after two innings. Halladay pitched a strong 7 innings, and Morneau hit two HRs to lead the Quirks to a 6-1 victory, and a position in the World Series.

New York Monkies Sweep Washington

The New York Monkies capped a sweep of the Washington Badgers in the first round of the TGML playoffs with a 5-1 victory in 10 innings. Both teams pitched shutouts for the first 9 innings. In the first two games, the Monkies scored early, and had strong pitching in beating the Green Badgers by scores of 6-5 and 7-3. The Monkies will now play Houston for the TGML Division Championship.

Pittsburgh Wins Over San Francisco

The San Francisco Giants had a 2 games to none lead, and a 3-1 lead in the 8th inning of Game 3 when the Pirates offense came to life. The Pirates came back to win 4-3, and won Game 4, 2-1, as Villanueva and the Pittsburgh bullpen shut down the Giants offense. In game 5, the Pirates took a 10-2 lead into the 6th, but the Giants scored four times in the 6th, and had the tie run at the plate with no outs in the 9th before losing 10-7. Pittsburgh will now play San Diego for the CBML Division Championship.

Zoo win CBML Division

The Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Zoo played a tiebreaker game to determine the CBML Divisional Champion. During the season, the teams were 5-5 against other, but because the Pirates had a better divisional record, they hosted the Zoo in the tiebreaker game.

The Zoo had ace Mike Mussina pitch against the Pirates' Tim Hudson. The Zoo scored in the first with help from a Jack Wilson error. San Diego added two more in the 3rd on a HBP, walk, single and run scoring doubleplay. The Pirates scored in the bottom of the 3rd on consecutive singles by Suzuki and Roberts, and a run scoring doubleplay by Bay. Both teams threatened a couple more times in the game, but the pitchers came through as the Zoo won 3-1.

Pittsburgh (#2 seed) will now play the San Francisco Giants (#3 seed) in the first round of the CBML Divisional playoffs.

New Owner Needed

Because of health issues, Brian Hess had to leave the JHML. The league will play the Boston games as we have done in the past. No trades with Boston can occur until a new owner is found.
