The Houston Quirks came out on top over the Pittsburgh Pirates by winning games 6 and 7 at home. In every game, the home team won as the Quirks defended their 2007 title with a 4 games to 3 series win. The Quirks have now won the last three JHML World Series.
The Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Zoo faced off again to determine the CBML Championship. The Pirates and Zoo traded victories in the first four games. Pittsburgh won games 1 and 3. San Diego won games 2 and 4. The Pirates won again in game 5. In game 6, the Zoo took a big early lead, but the Pirates inched back, and finally won the game (and the series) 8-7 in 6 games.
The Houston Quirks played the Washington Green Badgers in the TGML Divisional Finals. The Quirks won the first three games to take a commanding lead in the series. The Badgers came back to win game 4, but the Quirks won game 5 to win the series, 4 games to 1.
The San Francisco Giants played the San Diego Zoo in the Wild Card series in the CBML Division. In what was expected to be a "pitcher's series", the offense came alive. The Giants won the first game, 10-2. The Zoo came back to win games 2 and 3 by scores of 10-4 and 11-4. Game 4 was scoreless until the bottom of the 6th. The first two San Diego batters were retired. The next batter, Michael Young, struck out, but on a rare play, the catcher let the ball get by him for a passed ball as Young reached first. Young then stole secondbase, and scored on a Jeff Keppinger single. That was the only run of the game to give the Zoo the series, 3 games to 1. The Zoo will play the Pittsburgh Pirates for the CBML Division Championship.
The Washington Green Badgers played the New York Monkies in the Wild Card series in the TGML Division. The Badgers won games 1 and 2 on the road to take a commanding lead. The Monkies won game 3, 6-3, and took the Badgers to extra innings in game 4. But the Badgers came through with a walk-off Chipper Jones single to take the series, 3 games to 1.
The Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Zoo and San Francisco Giants have clinched playoff berths in the CBML Division. The Pirates have clinched the division, and will receive a bye in the first round of the playoffs. San Francisco is the #2 seed, and will have home field advantage over #3 seed San Diego.
The Houston Quirks have clinched the TGML Division Title, and will receive a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The New York Monkies and Washington Green Badgers have clinched playoff berths in the TGML Division. The Monkies will have home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs.
