Year in Review (writeup)

This was the inaugural season for what would come to be known as the CBML. In 1985, eight managers, six from the Baltimore, Maryland area and two from Winooski, Vermont, decided to play a 42 game season of Strat-O-Matic baseball using all of the 1984 teams, using the super-advanced rules as a starting point. The managers in Maryland would play the Board Game face-to-face, and the Vermonter would play their games face-to-face. The Vermonters would send strategy sheets to Maryland for their away games, and would receive strategy sheets from the Marylanders to play their home games.

Thirteen pairing of teams based on record (the team with the best record coupled with the team with the worst record, and so on) were initiated by league commisioner (known as Dictator In Charge or DIC) Lucian Lesage. After these base teams were chosen, the managers cut down to 20 players. The cut players were designated as Free Agents. These Free Agents would be the players available in the Inaugural CBML Draft. Teams drafted 10 players and played with a 25 man Major League roster and a 5 man Minor League.

League Draft

The initial year's draft has been lost over time. The only thing anyone is sure of is that the first pick overall (by MIN/ATL) was Scott Fletcher, prompting many guffaws from the other managers.
