Year in Review (writeup)

After winning the championship in 1999, Ken Robinson decided to resign from the league. Ken had been a member of the CBML since 1986 (14 seasons). Lonnie Magargle, a member of the TGML, was recruited to take over the defending champions. He immediately took his powerful team to Colorado to play in Coors Field.

San Francisco, Montreal, and Colorado turned out to be the top teams in the CBML's 16th season. All three teams played well over .600 ball with San Francisco leading the way with a .698 winning percentage.

During the summer of 2000, Mark Simmons decided to take a 3-year tour overseas with his job. He tried to get as many games played as he could before he was to leave in August. He played 66 of his 96 games. The league was able to get Carroll Reese to re-enter the CBML after a year and a half absense. Carroll played the last 30 Philadelphia games, and decided to retain the team for the 2001 season.

San Francisco, Colorado, and Baltimore won their respective divisions, and Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Florida gained the wildcard berths. Through the playoffs, Colorado and Montreal emerged to play in the World Series where the Rockies won the Championship, 4 games to 1, to defend their 1999 title.

At the end of the season, Don Acosta, Eric Bennett, and Jeff Guthart resigned from the CBML for various reasons. No new owners could be found, so the three teams were disbanded. A dispersal draft was performed where each of the remaining 12 teams obtained four additional players from these three teams. The rest of the players on the three disbanded teams were placed into the 2001 draft.
