Year in Review (writeup)

Just after the 2000 dispersal draft, a new person, Scott Tatu, e-mailed the league commissioner asking about the availability of entry into the CBML. The league at its annual Rules Meeting, voted to expand for the 2002 season. The Expansion Rules that were used in previous years were found, and Scott selected 35 players after the 2001 draft. These 35 players plus rookies from two Major League teams would be the starting point for the new team in the year 2002. Scott selected Cleveland and Seattle as his rookie teams. In the 2002 season, Scott will select one of these teams as his home park.

The league reverted back to two 6-team divisions. The commissioner named the two divisions for two ex-members; Robinson and Lesage. During the season, special days occurred such as Bernie Williams hitting for the cycle for LA against Boston, and LA getting no-hit, but winning. The big stories of the season were the Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros. The Pirates somehow managed to have the best record in the league at the end of the regular season. The problem was that the Chicago White Sox tied them. A tiebreaker game was played to determine the best record in the league, and Chicago won, 8-2. The Houston Astros had a chance to finish with a .500 record, but were swept in their last series against Atlanta, and finished with a 47-49 record. Still, that was the best record ever for the Houston franchise.

Chicago won the Robinson Division Title, and San Francisco won the Lesage Division Title. Pittsburgh, Colorado, Baltimore, and Boston ended up being wildcard teams. The Orioles continued their record as being the only CBML team to have at least a .500 regular season record.

San Francisco took the World Series in 6 games over Chicago to win their 3rd CBML Championship.
