That was quite a walk from the mess hall to cabin 23. But it certainly got my lungs warmed up for Marty's flute workshop!

Instrumental workshops at the camp are usually geared towards beginners, but the teachers are always prepared to be flexible. Workshops are one hour long, so you're not going to learn to play in instrument from scratch. What you will learn, if you've never played the instrument before, is enough to decide if you are really interested in the instrument, so that you can pursue it on your own. Many of the students at our instrument workshops are quite experienced, so for them the workshop turns out to be a master class, where the teacher provides guidance in style and technique. Sometimes the student will play the instrument quite well, but here she is introduced to a whole new set of tunes that she has never heard before, such as English country dance tunes or old-timey tunes.
