Photo of two kids playing on the rocks.
previous The Rocks next

How do they do it? They go to dance workshops all morning and still have energy to play!

There are many rock outcroppings in the camp and the surrounding area. "The Rocks" is what we call the area right outside the mess hall. We sometimes have singing or drumming workshops here, and I guess we needed a name in order to distinguish it from The Slab, where we sometimes have juggling and dance workshops. Other famous rocks in the area are Hog Rock, and Lookout Rock, where during Prohibition there was a lookout with a shotgun posted, watching for federal agents. The shotgun was used to fire a warning shot so that the moonshiners would have time to abandon their still and melt into the woods.
