FutureHome is not really one particular home. It is a series of energy efficiency,
passive solar, active solar, photovoltaics or solar electricity, fuel cell,
recycling, and wind turbine technologies. These technologies allow Segal's Solar
Systems to adjust the design of a new home to be very energy efficient and to
allow renewable resources and recycled energy to provide all the energy needed
for the home.
Let's imagine that you lived in the home of the future.
You would get 360 kilowatthours (KWH) of electricity a month from your
roof of 3000 Watts of photovoltaic modules.*
You would get 70 KWH of electricity a month from three 300 Watt windmills
on your roof.*
You would get a 700 mile range per tankful of gasoline in your hybrid car.*
You would use the special GFX Heat Exchanger to recover 2/3 of the heat
(20,000 BTUs per day) from the hot water leaving your shower and use it
to preheat the cold water entering your hot water tank.*
You would get all the other hot water in your home (40,000 BTUs daily) from
flat plate solar collectors in, or on, your roof.*
You will heat your swimming pool from waste heat from your air conditioner.*
The energy needed to heat your 1500 square foot heavily insulated home
(230,000 BTUs per day) would be obtained from:
Passive Solar techniques* (70,000 BTUs daily)
Fresh air via an air-to-air heat exchanger which recovers 2/3 of
the heat from the air exiting the home and using it to pre-heat
the incoming air. (60,000 BTUs daily)*
Active Solar heating system (50,000 BTUs daily)*

Fuel Cell (50,000 BTU daily, 44,000 BTU of which comes from gas and
6000 BTUs of which come from sewer gas.)**
You will get 150 kiloWatthours of electricity a month from fuel cells
powered by gas.**
You will get 60 kiloWatthours of electricity a month from fuel cells
powered by sewer gas if you have four people living in the home.**
If you need very hot water, you will get it from your fuel cell.**
Why should you wait? All the items marked with a single asterisk
and listed ABOVE the dashed line are available off-the-shelf TODAY!
Segal's Solar Systems can help them be a reality in YOUR home now!
The items marked with two asterisks have been done with TODAY's
technology in pilot projects, but are NOT yet available commercially.
Five to ten years from now, Segal's Solar Systems will help you add
them to your home or your community.
