The Sovereign Knight-Almoners of Malta

History

The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem, as it came to be known, was founded in Jerusalem by its first Master, Blessed Gerard (d. 1120), when the city was recovered by the Christians at the time of the First Crusade.

The Sovereign Knight-Almoners of Malta, however, was invented at about a quarter to 3 p.m. on September 3, 1999.

Structure & Governance

The Sovereign Knight-Almoners of Malta are led by the Right High Marshall Knight, with the advice and consent of the Master Almoner. The current Right High Knight is His Mightiness Eduard Beau-de-Mont; the position of Master Almoner is up for grabs.

Below the Right High Marshall Knight and the Master Almoner are three High Marshall Knights, followed by seven Marshall Knights, twelve High Knights, and as many Knights as there are people left over. (The chivalric Ranks of Almoner, Sub-Almoner, and Journeyman Beggar have been suppressed for lack of interest.)
